Paveway is a series of American laser-guided bomb (LGB) kits. Developed originally by Texas Instruments and now produced by Raytheon, the system attaches a nose-mounted laser seeker and a tail-mounted Computer Control Group (CCG) with steering fins to conventional, unguided "dumb" bombs (Mark 81, 82, 83, 84), converting them into highly accurate precision-guided munitions. Paveway bombs are currently used by over 40 countries.

Future projects & developments:

Lockheed Martin Paveway II Plus:
A semi-active laser seeker and pneumatically controlled canards guide the weapon. The air foil group (AFG) includes extending wings to provide lift and stability. The aerodynamic properties, exterior dimensions, and overall weapon mass properties of the CCG remain the same as existing Paveway II LGB computer control group's (CCG). The Paveway II Plus guidance section is field programmable, allowing easy installation of future capability.
Paveway II Plus LGB can be used in all Paveway II LGB weapon configurations and aircraft, and is compatible with the MK 80 series and BLU-109 warheads.
 


The Paveway configuration consists of a large number of possible components from the main groups:

Total weight depends on the specific configuration.
On carrier use, US Navy and Marines using bombs with with thermal-protective coating.

Live / practice / inert bomb markings:

Fully Blue: The entire weapon body is painted blue to signify it is a completely inert, empty, or concrete-filled practice bomb used to simulate the weight and drag of a live weapon.

Blue Stripe(s): One or more blue stripes generally indicate a training munition. In some configurations, it may have an inert-filled main warhead but retain a functioning or electronic fuze/seeker system for pilot training

Yellow stripe(s): live, high-explosive ordnance (warshots)
