The KNDS/Thales RapidFire Naval ... is a remote weapon system based on the 40CTC (40 mm Cased Telescoped Cannon). Designed to counter massive attacks performed with simultaneous heterogeneous air and ground threats: Air targets: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), loitering munitions, helicopters, Fighters Ground Attack (FGA), cruise missiles, RAM, etc. Surface targets: Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), Fast Patrol Boats (FPB), Fast Inshore Attack Craft (FIAC), sea-skimming missiles, etc. The system consists of: unmanned, remote controlled turret including gyro-stabilised 40 mm CTAS (Cased Telescoped Armament System) optronic Fire-Control System / FCS (infrared, daylight and laser range finder) operator firing console Effective range: 4,000 meters (2.16 NMI / 13,000 ft) Firing rate: up to 200 rounds/min Ammunition storage: 70 ready rounds in the turret (volume for up to 140 ready rounds) 40 mm telescoped, selectable, ammunition: Anti-Aerial Air Burst (A3B) The A3B rounds releases 660 grams (23 oz) of tungsten pellets that form a cloud of sub-projectiles in front of a target. The suggested method for aerial engagements is to fire at 80 rounds per minute, shooting a 4-round burst at 4,000 m (13,000 ft), then waiting a few seconds for damage assessment before firing another burst. High-Explosive Point Detonating (HE PD) High-Explosive Air Burst (HE AB) Armor-Piercing, Fin-Stabilized, Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) Target Practice (TP) In service: French Navy - future Prevaux class Offshore Patrol Vessel / Patrouilleur Hauturier (PH) KNDS/Thales RapidFire Land: Is the land-based variant of the RapidFire and is meant for integration on military vehicles. Rate of fire is 200 rpm with a range against aerial and surface targets of 4,000 and 2,500 metres (13,100 and 8,200 ft). The truck-based RapidFire can be mounted on a 6×6 and 8×8 chassis. sources: KNDS, Thales + |
