LPH-6112 ROKS Marado:

Marado was originally planned to enter service 2010. But due to the economic crisis of 2008 the second ship of the Dokdo-class amphibious assault ship was cancelled. In 2012 the budget was restored after the rise of tensions in the region.
Construction started in November 2016 with the first steel being cut. The keel was laid down in April the following year and the launch occurring another year later. The following two years consisted of fitting-out and going through sea trials. The ship was commissioned on 28 June 2021.

Differences with ROKS Dokdo:
Marado was built with some changes compared to the lead ship ROKS Dokdo.
The flight deck is adapted to accommodate two V-22 Ospreys, while Dokdo was able to only carry one.
In place of the Thales SMART-L multibeam radar and MW08 surveillance radar, Marado uses the Elta Systems EL/M-2248 MF-STAR multifunction surveillance radar and LIG Nex1 SPS-550K 3-D air and surface surveillance radar.
It also has a different weapons suite than the 30 mm Goalkeeper and RAM, instead using two 20 mm Phalanx CIWS and having a K-VLS at the rear of the superstructure for the locally developed K-SAAM.

Marado or Mara Island

... is an island 8 km (5.0 mi) off the south coast of Jeju, in southernmost South Korea, having an area of 0.3 km2 (0.12 sq mi). It is home to about 90 people, and has long been known for its population being composed of strong women and docile men. It's becoming a popular tourist destination, thanks to the many unusual rock formations, and is connected to the mainland by two regular ferries and numerous excursion boats.

Mara-do is within the administrative boundaries of Daejeong Township (Daejeong-eup) in Seogwipo City, and is included, along with Gapa Island (Gapado), in Gapa-ri, and is South Korea's southernmost point.

Because of its subtropical marine habitat the island is a natural reserve. It was designated as National Monument no. 423 on July 18, 2000.
