San Giusto:

The name and the history of Saint Giusto and the motto of the ship in Triestine is "Coragio no manca co' semo nel giusto" (the courage cannot and it does not have to lack when it is struck to us for a just cause) and forever ties the ship to the city of Trieste.

Ship’s crest:

The Crest, like the coat of arms of Trieste, uses the halberd emerging from the waves recalling, according to the legend, when Saint Giusto was thrown into the sea during the persecution of Diocleziano (303 a.a.) and returned from the ocean onto the beach of Trieste. The "amphibious" job of the ship is represented by the lion of Saint Mark, which has many pages of heroism in the history of national navy and embarks on the ship in the course of events operating for you and training for you.  Finally, the rudder, symbol of the Naval Academy, reflects the function of Ship School destined to train the young men and women about the Navy and to educate them in the love for the Native land and the sea.

San Giusto /Saint Justus:

Saint Justus of Trieste (also Justus the Martyr, Just of Trieste; Italian: san Giusto di Trieste, san Giusto martire; died 303) is a Roman Catholic saint.

He was according to tradition a citizen of Aquileia in Italy, known for his penance and charity. After refusing to sacrifice to the pagan gods, he was martyred in the Diocletianic Persecution: after several days of appalling tortures on the order of the prefect Manatius he was bound hand and foot, weighted down and thrown into the sea to drown. The cords attaching the weights broke and his body was washed up at Trieste, where he was buried.

There is evidence of his cultus in Trieste as early as the 6th century.

He is patron saint of the city and diocese of Trieste, and Trieste Cathedral is dedicated to him.

His feast day is November, 3.

Representations of the saint are limited to Trieste itself, and in particular to the cathedral. The oldest representation is probably the 12th century mosaic in the apse, where he is shown in a mandorla with Saint Servulus next to Christ. The famous image of him painted on silk in the 12th century "silk icon" is now in Trieste Cathedral treasury.
