Romeo Romei (1906-1941):

was born in Castellammare Cattaro on August 14, 1906.
He was a Naval Officer, Corvette Captain and Submarine Commander in the Royal Italian Navy (Regia Marina).

On a war mission conducted in the night of November 10, 1940 in the waters of the Sicilian Channel (50 miles SE of Malta), he attacked, without success, the Royal Navy battleship Ramillies, the cruiser Coventry and the destroyers Dainty, Waterhen and Vampire , who were heading to Malta to escort a convoy.

As Commanding Officer of the submarine 'Pier Capponi' he set sail from Messina and bound for the central Mediterranean.
She was torpedoed by the English submarine Rorqual and sank in the Tyrrhenian Sea about 17 miles south of the Island Stromboli.
Pier Capponi sank on the ground of the sea.
Romeo Romei died on March 31, 1941 aboard his boat.
There were no survivors among the crew.
