The Daphné-class submarine was a class of the diesel-electric powered submarines designed and constructed by the French defense contractor, DCNS, for the French Navy in 1964.

These submarines were enlarged versions of the Aréthuse class. Eleven were used by France. However, two (Eurydice 1970 and Minerve 1968) sank accidentally and brought sales to an end. The cause was eventually considered to have been a faulty snorkel design. The submarines were scrapped in the 1990s and Portugal sold one of its boats to Pakistan. PNS Hangor sank the Indian frigate INS Khukri during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war. Pakistan has now retired the submarine and is replacing it.

Besides its eight torpedo tubes forward, this submarine class has four in the stern. All are for torpedoes of the French 550 mm (21.7 in) diameter; while the forward tubes hold full-length torpedoes (either against ship either against submarine), the stern tubes hold only shortened ones (only against submarine, in autodefense).
They were modernized from 1971 to receive the DUUA-2B sonar (hence a larger bow dome) and the DLTD-3A allowing the launch of F17 wire-guided torpedoes.

A significant number of damages occurred on board these submarines, accidents in particular, which caused the loss of the Minerve and Eurydice submarines:

On January 27, 1968, the Minerve was lost south-east of Cape Sicié (Var), causing the death of 52 submariners. The Minerve wreck was located in July 2019 at a depth of 2,350 meters

On March 4, 1970, the Eurydice was lost off Saint-Tropez (Var), causing the death of 57 submariners. The wreck of the Eurydice was located and explored in April 1970 at a depth of 750 meters.

The causes of these two accidents have never been clearly identified.
