Originally built and launched as River class Frigates (60 built for Canadian Navy) in World War II. After the war 21 were

modified to “Prestonian” class frigates.

Modification included the addition of a larger bridge, a taller funnel and new guns.

1  12-pdr. Mk.V gun, aft;

4  20mm Oerlikon;

4  Mk.IV depth charge throwers (up to 150 DC’s carried);

1  Hedgehog ASW-mortar / Spigot-Type 60-pound mortar bombs;

 

 

Prestonian:

1  4” twin mount, forward;

1  40mm twin, aft;

4  40mm Bofors single;

2  Squid ASW-mortars;
