built in UK for the Royal Navy as HMS Valentine (R 17); never commissioned in the RN;

transferred to RCN before completion on February 7, 1944;

 

decommissioned on February 6, 1946; conversion to a fast anti-submarine escort started in July 1950 at Yarrows Ltd.; Esquimalt, BC, Canada;

recommissioned on February 25, 1953;
